Mass Spectrometry Imaging of Surface and Internal Distributions of the Insecticide Acephate in Leaves Using a Transfer Plate

We demonstrated thin-section- and matrix-free mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) of the insecticide acephate in azalea leaves. Leaves exposed to an aqueous acephate solution were transferred onto Poropare, a substrate suitable for transfer sampling that also possesses Pt-SALDI functionality. The spatial distribution of acephate was clearly visualized as its potassium-adduct ion. We present our leaf transfer workflow and show MSI results for two acephate application methods: cut-branch immersion and droplet loading.
