Charged-droplet-based accelerated derivatization using LESA (liquid extraction surface analysis) nanoESI-MS (electrospray ionization mass spectrometry) was investigated for the sensitive and stable detection of phthalic anhydride, a curing agent for epoxy resins. The results indicate that the applied voltage plays an important role in the reaction efficiency of the derivatization process. This approach is expected to offer a new guideline for polymer material evaluation as a rapid localized analytical method requiring minimal sample preparation.
