Application of HILIC/AEX LC-MS/MS to the yeast metabolic engineering

The budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is widely used as a host for carotenoid production. Metabolome analysis of carotenoid-producing strains using HILIC/AEX LC-MS/MS failed to detect some metabolites, such as glycolytic intermediates. However, principal component analysis revealed trends consistent with those observed for the metabolome data obtained by the ion pair and PFPP method.
