Trends in PFAS, Pesticide and Pharmaceutical Analysis Using LCMS-8065XE / Introduction of Innovative GCMS Solutions

(Shimadzu)
oSatoshi Yamaki

LCMS-8065XE, Shimadzu’s triple quadrupole LC/MS/MS, offers high sensitivity, fast MRM analysis, robustness, and high-throughput via automation. This seminar presents recent application examples including PFAS and other environmental pollutant analysis, simultaneous pesticide analysis in water, and quantitative metabolite analysis such as steroid hormones. These cases demonstrate the instrument’s strengths for trace analysis in complex matrices, high reproducibility for routine workflows, and improved laboratory productivity through long-term stable operation. We also cover automation of HPLC method development using AI and workflow efficiency enabled by data-analysis support functions, proposing current solutions for quantitative analysis across environmental, food, pharmaceutical, and clinical fields.
By contrast, LCMS is best suited for non-volatile, highly polar, and thermally labile compounds, while GCMS suits volatile, low-polarity, and thermally stable analytes. GCMS is frequently used for routine analyses in environmental, food, and chemical domains due to superior separation, strong qualitative power via EI, quantitative reproducibility, and matrix tolerance. Seminar examples for GCMS include simultaneous pesticide residue analysis in food, environmental VOC/SVOC pollutant analysis, and impurity/solvent management in chemical products, illustrating how both techniques are applied depending on analyte properties and application needs.
