LC/MS用分離技術「真空示差イオンモビリティ分析装置」の開発
Differential mobility spectrometry (DMS) separates ions based on the nonlinear change in their mobility between high to low electric fields, which are elicited in a field asymmetric waveform applied to electrodes. This nonlinear change in mobility has less dependence on a molecular weight, and thus DMS can be useful for separation of structural isomers and isobars. The mobility coefficient in DMS can be expanded by nonlinear terms of E/N (E: Electric field strength, N: Gas density). Therefore, higher E/N gives greater change in mobility and result in higher resolution. We have developed vacuum DMS, which reduces gas density N and gives higher E/N than conventional atmospheric DMS. Here we introduce the principle of vacuum DMS and show the examples of analyses using LC-vacuum DMS-MS.
