高精度同位体分析による自然界での同位体変動の検出と物質循環把握への応用
Natural isotopic variations of elements in the solar system are caused by various physical and chemical factors, and precise isotopic analysis can provide information on environmental changes and the evolution of analytes. Various types of ionization sources have been applied in the field of inorganic mass spectrometry for that purpose, including electron ionization for gaseous compounds and thermal and plasma ionization for metallic elements. In addition, accelerator mass spectrometry has been applied to extremely trace amounts of nuclides owing to its high abundance sensitivity and elimination of interferences by energy discrimination. Developments for accurate and small sample size isotopic analysis have been carried out in the field of isotope geochemistry as well as minimization of contamination during sample preparation and sample introduction to mass spectrometry. It is worth to note that the isotopic information is also important as fundamental scientific constants as the atomic weights of elements and their uncertainties in the periodic table, which is revised biannually by IUPAC.
