エオシンYの色変化のメカニズムの解明

Eosin Y is a red dye which changes color over time. Studies show that discoloration and color transformation occurs due to the dye featuring a strong pH dependence and degradation caused by the influence of light. Unfortunately, monitoring the degradation process of this dye is challenging due to it being susceptible.1) The purpose of this research is to figure out what happens to the structure when color transformation occurs. Two experiments were conducted: for the first experiment we measured the UV-visible absorption spectra in different pH solutions. The second is the collision-induced dissociation of ions, which were examined by mass spectrometry (electrospray ionization, quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer). Results from the first experiment indicates that the length of the conjugated π system differs depending on the pH. The result from the collision-induced dissociation experiment demonstrates that the auxochrome, which is the Br and the COOH, was dissociated from the conjugated π system.
