公共データベースを育てて活用する~代謝成分アノテーションのために

Development and improvement of metabolite and mass spectral databases in the public are important in metabolomics studies, especially for the metabolite annotation in non-targeted metabolome analysis. These databases and related computational analytical tools have been developed to help the metabolite annotation in this decades. However, there are many limitations because the metabolome datasets contain thousands of unknown or unidentified metabolite peaks. Metabolite annotation on a large-scale is time-consuming, and the efficiency highly depends on personal knowledge, expertise, and experience. Therefore the standardization of the metabolite annotation process is difficult though there are reports of the annotation pipeline. To overcome the situation, continuous development of the databases and analytical tools are required in the research community, and understanding of the limitation of analytical tools for the prediction and estimation of metabolites such as similarity search of mass spectra is also useful. Further improvement of the public databases for metabolite annotation will be discussed.
