Structural Analysis of Nitrogen-Containing Complex Polymers by MALDI-TOFMS

MALDI-TOFMS is a powerful tool for the structural analysis of polymers. In recent years, many examples of applying MALDI-TOFMS to structural analysis of synthetic polymers have been reported. However, it is difficult to determine the structure of polymers having C, H, N, and O in the composition because of their complex composition. In this study, we developed the structural analysis method of complex polymers containing nitrogen in the composition with MALDI-TOFMS. We found that “resolution-enhanced” Kendrick Mass Defect (KMD) can separate components of polymers, and we were able to determine the structure of the polymers.
