OKEANOS(Outsized Kite-craft for Exploration and AstroNautics in the Outer Solar system) is an asteroid explorer for Jupiter Trojans projected by JAXA. In this mission the spacecraft is planned to be landing on the one of asteroid in Jupiter Trojans and on-site mass spectrometry analysis will be performed to investigate composition of the asteroid surface. These surface materials and volatile compounds could provide a clue to understanding the origin and evolution processes of the target body, as well as the solar system formation.
We develop a mass spectrometry system for on-board OKEANOS based on multi-turn time-of-flight mass spectrometer developed in Osaka University. The mass spectrometer is combined with sampling system and some pre-processing systems, for example GC system. We will talk about details of this system and results of preliminary demonstration experiments.
