Scorpions use venom, which contains many bioactive peptide, for prey capture and self-defense. In this study, we isolated the insecticidal peptide (LaIT3) from the venom of the scorpion Liocheles australasiae, which lives in Japan, by bioassay-guided HPLC fractionation. The primary structure of LaIT3 was determined by using Edman degradation and de novo sequencing. As a result, we revealed that the peptide consists of 83 residues cross-linked with three disulfide bonds. The result of the sequence similarity search suggested that LaIT3 acts on cellular membranes.
