Metabolomics is the analysis strategy of the complete collection and quantification of metabolites present in a cell or tissue under a particular set of conditions. Much effort in the last decade has been focused on developing widely-targeted analysis for the relative determination of several hundreds of preselected metabolites among 10-100 biological samples. Although the methodology has been contributing the wide varieties of studies for the biomarker discovery and the metabolic system analysis, further developments in the data normalization, absolute quantification, data interpretation, integration with other omics data, and characterization of unknown metabolites are required for the true metabolomics exploring the hidden secrets of the metabolism.
