In these days, several clinical testings have been performed with mass spectrometers. For example, bacteria analysis and the identification of microorganisms to the species level are analyzed with MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer in not a small number of hospitals in Japan, which is covered by Japanese Universal health care. Some vitamin measurements are standardized with LC-MS/MS. Developments of investigative biomarkers have been achieved by proteomics with mass spectrometers. Here we introduce actual examples of applications of Mass spectrometry to Laboratory medicine in a university hospital.
