In this study, MALDI-TOFMS of ribosomal proteins was applied to discriminate five species (28 strains) belonging to pathogenic fungus, the Aspergillus section Fumigati. The masses of the 29 types of ribosomal proteins used as biomarkers were identified by MALDI-TOFMS. A phylogenetic tree were constructed based on the profiles of ribosomal protein biomarkers. The sample strains were divided into clusters reflecting the species. These results demonstrated ribosomal protein profiling method using MALDI-MS would be a sufficiently high-throughput technique for rapid discrimination of closely related Aspergillus species.
