Desorption/ionization of gold ions from gold nanoparticle in a blotting membrane was quantitatively evaluated by using imaging mass spectrometry. Counts of gold ions were almost linear to the concentrations of gold nanoparticle solutions, when diluted solutions, less than 1000 nM (gold atoms), were cast on a membrane. Limit of the detection was estimated to be 10 nM (gold atoms) that corresponded to 20,000 (particle number)/mm2 on a membrane.
