In the European regulation of dioxin and PCBs analysis in food and feed, use of GC-MS/MS have been permitted in addition GC-HRMS since June 2014. Accordingly, the performance and technologies of GC-MS/MS have been improving by each manufacturer. Agilent 7010 triple quadruple GC-MS was also improved due to make more high sensitivity than the previous model. We evaluated whether there is a possibility to use the system due to determine dioxins and PCBs in environmental samples.
The relative sensitivity coefficient and the detection limit of the device were calculated (from the standard deviation and S/N) with the calibration standard solutions. The results were as well as the stability and sensitivity of GC-HRMS. When it comes to the product ion scan mode with dioxin standards, Dioxin-COCl (-63)-ions were mainly detected as product ions. Furthermore, one of the advantages of GC-MS/MS measurement is that it is possible to eliminate the interferences of dioxins determination such as high level PCBs.
