An ion mobility measurement has been utilized to analyze molecular structures by observing the mobility under static electric field in gas phase. Here we have developed a trap mobility measurement system to observe charged particles. Because ion mobility depends on the structure and the charge, we need to understand the charge of samples. The charged polystyrene particles with strictly controlled diameters were measured by the system, where their motion was monitored by a digital camera with laser irradiation. The calculated charge of the particles increases as the diameter increases. This trend is independent of kinds of material and kinds of ionization methods.
