Sesamin, one of the lignans in sesame seed, was a labile compound in MS. To protect labile sesame lignans and assist their ionization, an amino-β-cyclodextrin (NβCyD) was added to generate the host-guest complex in ESI-MS. As a result, sesamin was ionized as the NβCyD-sesamin-NβCyD (1:2) complex without undesired decomposition, suggesting that NβCyD assist ionization of the labile molecules capped with CyDs by host-guest interaction. These observations are like aminocyclodextrin complex assisted ionization. The NβCyD complexes of sesamin and sesamolin were also analyzed by their ion-mobility MS.
