The usefulness of Kendrick mass defect plot was demonstrated for structural characterization of pyrolysis products derived from polyethylene/ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer mixture. Fluorohydrocarbons in the pyrolysis products of polyethylene/ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer mixture were selectively isolated from their hydrocarbon counterparts and regularly arranged according to their molecular weight and number of fluorine atoms in the plot. An efficient structural analysis of the fluorohydrocarbons was achieved by combining effective positional information in the plot with mass spectral information.
