Desorption/Ionization of gold ions using a MALDI-MS machine was discussed. Gold ions were efficiently desorbed from gold nanoparticles cast on tissue sections, membrane, and ITO plates. The desorption was not suppressed by the presence of organic molecules. The desorption/ionization efficiencies depending on shapes and aggregation of gold were evaluated. It was found that anisotropic gold nanoparticles, gold nanorods, showed efficient desorption/ionization of gold ions.
