Application of MS to the Search for Marine Toxins and Bioactive Marine Natural Products

Marine organisms are a rich source of structurally unique compounds with potent bioactivities that can be useful for the development of new drugs. However, the content of marine natural products is usually quite poor, and the structure elucidation of them is not straightforward in many cases. Therefore, we have been using MS in the processes of the purification and the structure elucidation of new marine natural products.
In this presentation, examples of application of MS or MS/MS to isolation of minor constituents, structure elucidation of compounds that were not able to be achieved only by analysis of NMR spectra, or nanoscale reactions using small amounts of natural compounds will be introduced.
