Mass spectrometry plays an important role in the research field of materials processing. The authors have studied high-temperature reactions relating to the production of metals, and applied double Knudsen cell mass spectrometry to thermodynamic measurements of various alloys and compounds. A significant relationship between the materials processing and mass spectrometry is outlined, and future prospects are presented.
