A substance that causes one of the component events in diseases, such as inflammation, through a specific receptor is called a mediator of inflammation. Due to their strong ability to induce inflammation, they are produced/decomposed in a quite spatio-temporal manner. It is important to understand their spatio-temporal localization particularly during progression of chronic inflammatory disorders, however, till today, we don’t have an effective visualization technique to reveal their tissue localization. In this study, we will present our recent development of imaging mass spectrometry with on-tissue derivatization method for such trace amount of molecules. Its application into animal model of chronic inflammatory disorders will also be introduced.
