Formation of Nitrate and Nitrite Compounds on Brass Surfaces by Atmospheric Plasma Jet Exposure
For various technological applications of low-temperature atmospheric-pressure plasmas (APPs) including treatment of living tissues, a better understanding of plasma gas-phase reactions facilitates the development of better controlled processes. As a study to clarify APP gas-phase reactions, laser desorption/ ionization mass spectroscopy was performed to analyze a brass surface exposed to helium-based low-frequency (kHz) plasma jet. It is seen that metal nitrates and nitrites were formed on the brass substrate by the APP jet injection.
