In conventional mass spectrometry, there were no high sensitive techniques of analyzing volatile compounds in real time under atmosphere pressure. Direct analysis in real time coupled to mass spectrometry, DART-MS is one of candidate for ambient mass spectrometry for volatile compounds. However, we realized two hurdles as follows: 1) dispersion of ions because of open system, 2) low introduction and concentration of ions into a mass spectrometer due to the structural feature of DART-MS. In this study, we developed and investigated a novel technique to utilize DART-MS for efficient analysis of volatile compounds such as flavors. This result demonstrated ion collection and concentrated introduction with the device were effective for increasing the sensitivity for volatile compounds.
