Characterization of Ribosomal Proteins of Microcystis aeruginosa by MALDI-MS
Ribosomal proteins extracted from bloom-forming cyanobacteria, Microcistis aeruginosa, were characterized by MALDI-TOFMS. Sample preparation procedures including sonication to collapse gas vesicle and ultracentrifugation to collect ribosomal proteins were optimized to observe the mass spectra of ribosomal proteins as major peaks. The peak assignments were performed by comparing with the theoretical mass values of a genome-sequenced strain NIES-843. Finally, 25 ribosomal protein biomarkers were selected to identify and classify M. aeruginosa strains.
