Development of a low-resistance MCP detector for time-of-flight mass spectrometry
Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. has developed a low-resistance MCP detector. The low-resistance MCP is expected to recover from saturation faster than a normal-resistance MCP. To test the recovery from saturation of the detector, gases in air were measured by the miniaturized multi-turn time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MULTUM-S II). Intensity of O2 ions with N2 ions was smaller than that without N2 ions, which implies that MCP is not fully recovered from saturation within 0.79 microseconds. Compared by the intensity of output, the low-resistance MCP detector is less saturated than the normal-resistance MCP detector.
