The experiments described in this poster demonstrate a new method which enables the correct peak identification; it is possible to distinguish minor characteristics with ultralow volume samples.
Pyrolysis can be a preparatory step for high molecular weight and low volatile samples prior to GC analysis. GCxGC-TOFMS was effectively used for separation and detection of components in polymers, including additives and pyrolyzates. The collection of full mass range TOFMS spectra allowed for measuring both targeted and non-targeted analytes. Identification was determined by matching the acquired full range mass spectra to known spectra in libraries. Additional collection of HR-TOFMS data allowed for confirmation of analyte identities, and to determine formula of analytes that were previously unknown with mass accuracies of ≤1 ppm. These techniques provide a reliable method to locate, identify, and accurately distinguish fine minor variance between samples.
