A growing awareness of the need to maintain good health has led to a significant demand for dietary supplements in recent years. However, in order to enhance their effectiveness, some products contain pharmaceutical components illegally, such as cathartics and appetite suppressants. Adverse reactions associated with their use have been a worldwide problem. In addition, food mislabeling incidents and illegal drugs have become social problems.
We present our CE/MS methods for the simultaneous determination of 20 pharmaceutical components in dietary supplements for weight loss, of free amino acids in royal jelly products, and of 12 synthetic cannabinoids in herbal incense blends.
