Provenance analysis of excavated amber was performed by Rb-Sr isotope systematics. A mass spectrometric technique by thermal ionization mass spectrometry was developed to analyze the radiogenic Sr isotope ratio with a Sr sample size of sub-ng to ng. Analysis of the Sr reference material NIST SRM 987 with a sample size of 1 ng showed an external reproducibility of 47 ppm, which is precise enough to distinguish Sr isotopic signature of different geologic origins in this study. The analysis of the ambers from five different domestic locations hints on discriminating the locations using Rb-Sr isotope analysis.
