Spider venom is a complex mixture of salts, small organic compounds, peptides and proteins. Although many peptides in the spider venom contain disulfide bonds, linear amphipathic peptides also play important roles by showing significant insecticidal and/or antimicrobial activities. In this study, we analyzed components of the venom of the spider Lycosa poonaensis (Lycosidae), which is widely distributed in Egypt, and identified two linear amphipathic peptides, which is likely to show antimicrobial activity.
