Characterization and Screening of Surfactants Using LC/QTOF
Since common surfactant consists of a mixture of chemical compounds, high resolution mass spectrometry has been often applied for its characterization. However, as the complexity of the accurate mass spectrum increases, it tends to take more time to analyze data and more technical knowledge and skill of the researchers are expected. In this work, using both chromatographic and accurate mass information by LC/QTOF, surfactant feature peak detection becomes possible from LC/MS data deconvolution. The unique feature plot view of neutral mass, retention time and abundance give rapid and efficient identification information of surfactants. We applied this workflow to analyze the real sample, commercial consumables and river water.
