Ambient Ionization Using Argon in Dark Current Discharge
Argon gas was applied to Ambient ionization. Argon has not been widely used in ambient ionization (including Direct Analysis in Real Time; DART) because the lower internal energies of metastable argon (~11.6 eV) give rise to quite low analyte ionization efficiency compared to metastable helium. Here we found that the combination of argon with an atmospheric pressure dark-current discharge results in an ionization efficiency and mechanism comparable to those of helium DART.
