Evolved Gas Analyses of Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB) in Various Atmospheres by Thermogravimetry - Mass Spectrometry (TG-MS)
Evolved gas behaviors of commercial grade polyvinyl butyral (PVB) in various atmospheres have been investigated by thermogravimetry - mass spectrometry (TG-MS). The main volatile component under 300 degrees Celsius was plasticizer TEG-EH. An antioxidant BHT and butyraldehyde derived from decomposion of PVB side chain were tracked by the system as well. The newly released TG-MS can be easily operated even in oxygen mixed gas atmosphere, making possible to analyze the degassing mechanism in the condition close to practical use.
