Sheath-flow Probe Electrospray Ionization Source for Remote Sampling Mass Spectrometry

Sheath-flow probe electrospray ionization source for remote sampling mass spectrometry was developed to analyze solid samples. An acupuncture needle was inserted into a gel loading tip and protruded from the tip by ~0.1 mm. After filling solvent in the gel loading tip, the solid sample surface was touched with the tip and analytes were extracted in the gel loading tip. By applying high voltage to the acupuncture needle, mass spectra of analytes were obtained by the self-aspirating electrospray.
