Living organisms express various physiological functions by complex reactions and interactions of a wide variety of molecules including proteins. It is necessary to detect efficiently and identify biomolecules existing therein to understand such complex biological reactions. But biological samples are complicated mixture and it was difficult to comprehensively analyze target compounds, because of wide dynamic range of analytes in biological sample. In recent years, a combination of an ultra-high-speed liquid chromatography and mass spectrometer has been used as a highly sensitive quantitation technology, enabling complicated mixtures obtained from living organisms being analyzed. In this seminar, we introduce the latest mass spectrometry technologies and their applications, and we will look at what role we will play in medical and biological fields from now on.
