The matrix-enhanced surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization method (ME-SALDI) was applied to the mass imaging of section samples of mouse liver homogenates with olanzapine. Use of zirconium (Zr) as a sputtering metal with this method was effective for the detection of olanzapine. Sample pretreatment with water for MALDI markedly enhanced olanzapine detection. In contrast, the same pretreatment was less effective for ME-Zr-SALDI.
