MULTUM-S II を用いた歯周病オンサイト診断法の開発
Periodontal disease is an oral inflammatory disease that can lead to tooth loss. Conventional techniques can only assess the level of tissue destruction, and currently, no method currently exists which can quickly and preemptively ascertain the pathological condition. Therefore, a new on-site method that quickly and effectively provides data on periodontal disease progression is desired. Advances in this area could lead to preemptive diagnosis of periodontal disease and effective treatment prior to major tissue. We previously reported on 20 metabolites that show significant changes during periodontal disease progression. This study was designed to evaluate the possibility of on-site diagnosis by exploring a method that can quickly analyze periodontal disease biomarkers using a compact instrument that focuses on the biomarkers most pertinent to disease progression. The MULTUM-S II is a good candidate for a compact instrument, and pairing it with surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization(SALDI)could eliminate the time requirement of gas chromatography.
