２つのデスバレー：質量分析の医療応用への道程
Death valley here means an interruption or disconnected state among different scientific fields such as academic, industrial and service science. We cannot launch successful introduction of developed devices into markets, unless these death valleys would not be bridged into one continent. We have developed a mass spectrometry-based cancer diagnosis machine equipped with learning machine. This system is composed of three essential components; probe electrospray ionization (PESI) as an ionizing unit, dual penalized logistic regression machine (dPLRM) as a classifier, and relation database (RDB) as a reference for learning machine. While each elementary technique has extraordinary advantages and potentials in handling biological specimens such as human tissue, as well as large and very complex body of data obtained from mass spectrometer and clinical field, we now continue to struggle with issues that have to be fixed prior to start the authorized clinical trial. In this short talk, I will introduce several important topics that are vital to pave the way into realization of medical devices.
